CEGI Objectives

To continue to innovate and remain competitive in the 21st century, many industrial sectors require a broadening of scientific techniques and know-how related to information engineering.

The CEGI (for Centre d'Excellence en Génie de l'Information) responds to this essential need by pursuing research and development activities which are focused on the integration of several engineering and scientific fields.

In doing so, the CEGI provides innovative approaches that contribute to four main engineering areas:
  • the acquisition and representation of information;
  • information processing;
  • transport and communication of information;
  • applications of information.

CEGI researchers will benefit
from a unique research environment that supports
a new model of academic-industry interactions
through tangible science and engineering research projects.

Built on a continuum of research activities ranging from the engineering of nanomaterials to the development of telecommunication systems and algorithms, the CEGI offers leading-edge facilities so that interdisciplinary teams of researchers can fully integrate their know-how in order to find innovative and practical solutions to real world applications.

Some of the main application sectors in which the CEGI researchers are active include:

  • mobile robotics
  • telecommunications
  • medecine
  • kinesiology
  • clinical researchh
  • signal processing

Vision

The CEGI will define the standard for technology transfer in information engineering
  • by assembling a critical mass of experienced researchers from various disciplines from both an academic and industrial background;
  • by concentrating its research activities in a single facility.
Our model of academic-industry interactions will make it possible
  • to increase the speed and efficiency of technology transfer in strategic sectors;

  • to ensure better management of fundamental, applied and industrial research;
  • to support and leverage the capabilities of its affiliated academic, industrial and governmental partners.

Mission

The CEGI will become a catalyst for innovation in information engineering, acting for the benefit of academic and industrial communities in Québec and Canada.

      To meet this objective, the CEGI
  • will train highly qualified personnel
  • ;
  • will create an environment which will promote synergies reaching beyond traditional disciplinary boundaries
  • ;
  • will consolidate existing and develop new national and international collaborations.
